HOW TO WRITE A WINNING CV

BEFORE WE START

The two most important things to consider when applying for a new position are choosing a suitable recruitment agency and the content and layout of your CV.

You need to choose the recruitment agent very carefully, because we are not all the same. Your agent should know the market inside and out, have strong relationships with the clients and more importantly know what you want in order to find your perfect role. Pro-Tax have the most experienced Directors and Consultants in the Tax Market. We are the preferred supplier to the majority of the Top 50 accountancy firms and many of the FTSE 100 and 250 companies.

WRITING YOUR CV

Your specialism is tax, not CV writing, so you can be forgiven for not knowing how you should layout your CV or indeed what the crucial information to be included is. Many Recruitment Consultants will simply reformat your CV without any thought or care to how it may be enhanced. At Pro-Tax we take time and hard work into helping you with your CV, ensuring that our clients have all of the information they need to decide if you are suitable. At Pro-Tax we ask our clients what they want to see in a CV in order to help you get an interview.

The easiest way to compile your CV is to let Pro-Tax do it for you. We have listened to what our clients have asked for in CVs, the lay out they prefer, the content and style and we have designed a CV that catches the attention of the reader. Our CVs are way ahead of our competitors.

WHAT WE REQUIRE FROM YOU IS THE CONTENT.

When you submit a CV to Pro-Tax you can be over elaborate and it can be as many pages as you wish, as we will work with you to tailor your CV to each role accordingly. The basis for any CV should include:

  • Personal details – Name, address and contact details
  • Education & Qualifications (Starting from schooling,  University to professional qualifications)
  • Technical content: Starting with the most basic work, build up your experience from compliance to advisory. Consider specific projects or notable success you have had
  • Management: If you have managed individuals and/or teams detail this on your CV. It is vital to show you have leadership qualities.
  • Business Development: Most candidates do this without even thinking about it. In the course of most employees work they are constantly spotting more work that can be carried out on the client’s behalf. Although quite basic, this is the start of business development. If you have specifically won new clients, attended client pitches, network events etc include all of this on your CV. It is encouraging for clients to see you are multi skilled and will help increase their business.
